It's not that hard to get into the U of M especially if you apply early. A lot of Ivy-rejects or people who got a lot of money(scholarship)....a lot of engineering or actuarial math international students or dumb football players come here.

My recommendation to high school students is be in the top 10% of your class.

My recommendation to transfer students is keep in very close contact with the admissions office about making sure they recieved all of your application parts and about getting transfer credit. It takes a lot work to get you classes to transfer over, so make sure you find out right away what you have to do, and don't put it off. You don't want to be having to take care of this after you've already left the school you're transferring from.

Work hard in high school but have some fun too. A 4.00 with tons and tons of extracurriculars probably does not look as appealing to the school as an applicant with a 3.8 GPA who was very active in a couple EC programs.
